What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. It lets the site remember something between requests — that a form was started, or that you are signed in. Cookies can be set by the site you are visiting, or by a third party whose content is embedded in the page.
Our position, in short
We use cookies to understand how this website is used and to manage the enquiries we receive. We do not use advertising or remarketing cookies, and we do not sell information collected by cookies.
When you browse this site, analytics cookies from Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and HubSpot are set. They are described below, with how long each one lasts, and you can block or delete them at any time without affecting how the site works.
The cookies that can be set
Strictly necessary
These are set only when you take an action that needs them. They exist to make that action work, not to observe you.
- Form security and session cookies. When you interact with a form, the website and its form software may set a short-lived cookie to validate that the submission came from a real session on our site rather than an automated attack, and to preserve what you typed if the page reloads. These expire when you close your browser, or shortly after.
- Bot protection on embedded services. Cloudflare sets a cookie named
__cf_bmon the booking and enquiry services built into our pages (Cal.com and HubSpot), to tell people from automated traffic. It lasts 30 minutes. - Authentication cookies. If you sign in to the WordPress administration area — relevant only to our own staff, not to visitors — cookies keep you signed in and record your screen preferences.
Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent under Canadian, European or UK rules, because the service you asked for cannot be delivered without them.
Analytics: Google Analytics
Google Analytics (Google LLC) tells us which pages are visited, how people arrive, and how many enquiries the site produces. We never send it the contents of a form, or a name, email address or phone number.

Analytics: Microsoft Clarity
Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation) shows us how pages are used, as heatmaps and session recordings of clicks, scrolling and mouse movement. By default it masks the text you type into form fields.

Enquiry management: HubSpot
HubSpot (HubSpot, Inc.) is the system we use to manage enquiries and client relationships. Its cookies record visits to this site, so that when you send an enquiry we can see which pages led to it.

Third-party requests from comments
Profile pictures next to blog comments are served by Gravatar, operated by Automattic Inc. Loading that image is a request to Automattic’s servers, which reveals your IP address and browser to them, and they may set their own cookies as part of serving it. This happens only on article pages that display comments. See automattic.com/privacy.

How to control cookies
You can block or delete any of the cookies above. Blocking analytics and enquiry-management cookies does not stop the website from working. Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies:

- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Google also offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics from recording your visits to any website: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop our contact forms from submitting successfully.
Most browsers also offer a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no agreed standard for how sites should respond to it, and the analytics tools we use do not change their behaviour when they receive it. To stop them recording your visits, block their cookies as described above.
